The Family Dog

Parent education specializing in dog-infant and dog-toddler interactions

After taking prenatal classes during my own pregnancy and connecting with parents in the community, I became aware of the lack of resources that incorporate the family dog in preparing families for a new baby, and then for toddlerhood. To help fulfill this need, I became certified as a licensed Family Paws Parent Educator.

Through the Family Paws program, I receive ongoing support and education from an international network of peers and child-dog experts. My classes and personal recommendations will always be up-to-date, humane and scientifically-backed.

Dogs & Storks® and

Dogs & Toddlers

Classes

I offer Dogs & Storks® and Dogs & Toddlers™ group classes. These Family Paws® programs give advice to expecting parents on how to safely include their pet in their growing family, from before birth into toddler hood.  The programs include proactive, practical and fun tips and activities that are easy to understand and incorporate into daily life. Great for grandparents, childcare providers and childbirth professionals, too!

Want to host a Dogs & Storks® and/or Dogs & Toddlers™ seminar? Reach out! These classes are well-suited for mom groups, community organizations, libraries or as a supplement to pre-natal and childbirth classes.

Private Consultations for New or Expecting Families

I also offer private counseling for families who have specific questions or concerns about transitioning from pet parents to parents of a baby. These consultations are perfect for families with dogs that are looking for an individualized plan to suit their needs. Recommended for families with dogs that are afraid of new sounds and objects, dogs that are bouncy and over-exuberant, dogs that have little or no experience with babies or children and/or dogs that have growled, bitten and/or shied away from humans.

Has your baby (or toddler) already arrived and are you confused or concerned about your dog and child’s relationship? Get in touch!
